Godwin Band Boosters Minutes
Executive Board Minutes 2/6/06
Call To Order
Susan Taylor called the meeting to order and thanked Diane
Fellin for recording the minutes of tonight's meetings in Chris
Klein's absence.Susan also thanked Cindy LaFratta, Roby Monday,
Gail Peters, Martha Phillips, Don Taylor & Vicki DeLand
for helping sell snacks and lunch at the All-County Band. Our
Winter Guard won first place at the Powhatan Indoor Guard Show.
More volunteers were needed to staff the concessions stand at
the University of Richmond game on February 18; a sign-up sheet
was circulated.
Approval of Minutes
Minutes of the February meeting were circulated to the Board
by email. These minutes were approved as submitted.
Treasurer's Report
John Lawrence provided the Treasurer's Report. As of January
31, 2006 the checking account balance is $64,197.20 and the
savings account balance is $5,446.36. Total designated funds
are approximately $46,218.00, leaving cash available at $23,514.56.
There is still one final bill pending for the field show. The
student account balances as posted in the band room are current,
and include any funds earned via the Otis Spunkmeyer fundraiser.
Mr. Lawrence also announced that final payment is due for the
spring trip on February 15, 2006. Final cost per student is
$570 and includes one workshop. Additional workshop fees do
apply and should be addressed with Mr. Auman. Mr. Auman stated
that the Drama department is supplying chaperones for those
students attending the Cirque de Soleil show. If any band chaperones
wish to attend, please see Mr. Auman tonight to make arrangements.
The board authorized $500 to thank a Booster member for the
use of this truck throughout the marching season.
COMMITTEE REPORTS
Indoor Guard Show
Roby Monday stated that the next planning meeting would be
February 20th and that all planners should attend. Adult volunteers
are still needed. The signup sheet for trophy sponsorship was
posted in the band room. Susan Taylor stressed that everyone's
help is needed for this major fundraiser. There are 39 units
signed up this year. Martha Philips asked that students with
last names starting with the letters A-H provide a 12-pack of
brand name soda or water, and that students with last names
starting with the letters I-Z provide baked goods. These baked
goods need to be in small packages suitable for individual sale
(i.e. 1 brownie or 2-3 small cookies). John Lawrence will handle
having the programs printed at McKesson.
The Nominating Committee
Don Taylor, Martha Phillips, and Diane Fellin will meet to
discuss the nominees for next year's officers. These nominees
will be announced at the March meeting, with nominations from
the floor being accepted through the April meeting. The slate
of officers will be voted on at the May meeting.
Chaperones
Spring trip chaperones will have a mandatory meeting after
the March booster meeting. This meeting should start at approximately
8 PM.
Guard Parents
Winter Guard competitions are continuing. Drum
Line is expected to compete at Deep Run, Edison High School
in Springfield, and possibly Raleigh, NC the first weekend in
April.
Hospitality
Martha Philips stated that the Band Banquet will
be May 22nd. May 31st was not a good option due to senior awards
being that day. John Lawrence suggested approaching Jack Halpern
regarding catering the banquet. Sandy Peck mentioned that the
band members should be asked their preferences as to the structure
of the banquet (dinner vs. heavy hors 'd oeuvres. Martha stated
that if we could improve the event by adding more seating in
the Commons and adhering to a definite start and stop time.
Newsletter
Next deadline for the newsletter is February 17th,
& the newsletter will be sent out to the membership before
the winter guard show. Susan Taylor asked Mr. Auman for a drum
line roster so that they can be recognized in the newsletter.
Photography
Carol Butterworth offered to provide a group marching
band picture to anyone interested for $5. A sign-up sheet was
distributed, and will be available again at the March meeting.
Tribute Book
The book is well underway. Pictures of the students
are still desired. Shari Galloway will be approaching advertisers
but could use some help; call her to volunteer.
Ways & Means
Dan Watkins reported that there are three
more Chick-fil-A nights (All Fridays - Feb. 10, March 10 and
May 12, 5-8 pm) scheduled. Otis Spunkmeyer orders are being
delivered on February 16th and must be picked up by 6 pm. Mr.
Watkins also explained that the Ukrops Golden Gifts program
is actually a 3-step program. You must go back in & double
check that your request was linked to your card. Then you should
check to see that the funds were transferred correctly.
Uniforms
Uniforms jackets were cleaned. Please wash the pants
if you have not done so already. Sandy Peck reminded the membership
that all the uniform committee members are senior parents and
that new committee leaders will be needed for next school year.
The meeting was adjourned the meeting at 7:25 pm.

General Membership meeting 2/6/06
Call To Order
Susan Taylor welcomed everyone to the meeting.
Approval of Minutes
The minutes of the January 9, 2006 meeting (as distributed
to the Board) were approved.
Announcements
Susan announced that volunteers are still needed for the University
of Richmond concession fundraiser on February 18; a sign-up
sheet was circulated. Susan congratulated the Winter Guard on
their first place finish at the Powhatan Guard Show and thanked
Cindy LaFratta, Gail Peters, Martha Phillips, Vicki DeLand,
Don Taylor and Roby Monday who helped with concessions sales
and lunch for the All-County Bands in January.

COMMITTEE REPORTS

Fellin for agreeing to serve on the Nominating Committee for
next year's officers. Recommendations for officers should be
forwarded to the Nominating Committee. A slate of officers will
be presented at the March meeting, nominations from the floor
will be accepted at the April meeting, and a vote will be taken
at the May meeting.
Roby Monday reviewed the status of our indoor guard show, and
requested help from everyone for this major fundraiser. There
are opportunities to help on Friday night as well as all day
Saturday. To date we have 39 units coming. Martha Philips asked

band would be available to order through the March meeting for
$5. She also circulated a sign-up sheet for parents wishing
to purchase a special section of the Tribute Book to honor their
senior student. A price for this has not yet been set.
Dan Watkins reminded everyone that cookie dough would be available
to be picked up on February 16, 2006, before 6 pm.
Band Director's Report
Mr. Auman announced that Godwin is hosting the District Band
Festival on March 16th & March 17th. He also reminded everyone
that the band will leave for spring trip on Wednesday, March
22nd. Although it is a half day for students, all students are
expected to be in school. The busses will be leaving Godwin
at approximately 6 pm. We are staying in the Port Orleans Riverfront
hotel on Disney property. The price of $570 includes one workshop.
Each additional workshop costs approximately $26. The students
will be given "Park Hopper" passes and will be required
to stay in groups of four or more. They will be able to choose
between four parks, two will be available each day. They will
be using park transportation, and will have to sign in and out
of the parks at designated check points. Although an exact itinerary
is not yet available, the band workshops will occur on Saturday
and last approximately 2½ hours each. This will be a
realistic professional recording session. The itinerary will
be provided once all times are finalized. Currently no formal
performances are scheduled, and the band possibly may not even
need their uniforms.
Adjournment
Susan Taylor adjourned the meeting with the announcement that
the next band booster meeting will be March 7th, with the chaperones
meeting for the spring trip scheduled immediately after the
general meeting at approximately 8:00 pm.
