Godwin Band Boosters Minutes
Executive Board Minutes 4/3/06
Call To Order
President Susan Taylor called the meeting of the Executive
Board to order at 6:40 pm.
Approval of Minutes
The minutes of the March 6, 2006 meeting, which were circulated
to Board members via email, were approved.
Treasurer's Report
John Lawrence presented the Treasurer's Report. No bank statement
has been received as of 4/3/06 so the checking and savings accounts
could not be balanced. As of 3/20/06, the checking balance was
$30,167 and the savings balance was $5454.54. Total income earned
from the fall Field Show is $5,065.25.
Nominating Committee
John Lawrence reported that the Nominating Committee has proposed
the following slate of officers for next year.
President Roby Monday
1st Vice President Kathy Jones
2nd Vice President Dan Watkins
Treasurer Francis Campbell
Secretary Sallie Bartholomew
The election will be held at the May 1st general membership
meeting.
Indoor Guard Show
The Guard and Drum Line did well last weekend at the AIA Finals
competition with the Guard placing 5th and the Drum Line 7th.
COMMITTEE REPORTS
Hospitality
Martha Phillips reported on the survey that was given to the
students regarding the format of the end-of-year banquet. The
decision was made to host a buffet style banquet like last year.
She requested $750 for banquet expenses, which was approved
by the board. It was decided to charge $14.00 per person, excluding
seniors, which are covered by the Boosters.
Photography
Susan Taylor asked about the status of the composite picture
and Chris Klein agreed to follow up with David Caldwell at Lifetouch.
Carol Butterworth asked the chaperones to give her any pictures
from the Spring Trip.
Tribute Book
Bev Meyers reported that she could use some help from anyone
familiar with Publisher 2000 or 2003. Sherry Galloway noted
that senior ads are still available.
Web Page
Susan Taylor announced that Mark Bartholomew has agreed to be
our new Webmaster for the remainder of the year.
Scholarships
There is currently $192 in the scholarship account. Roby Monday
will call Wal-Mart to check on the status of their donation
to the scholarship fund. The Boosters would like to offer two
scholarships this year, but will hold off until the May meeting
to make a final decision as to the number of scholarships and
their amounts. Seniors will be given a handout with instructions
for submitting their essay for consideration by the April 28th
deadline. Roby Monday, Chris Klein, Debra Bradshaw, and Carol
and Chris Butterworth have agreed to sit on the Selection Committee.
Roby will make the final selection(s).
Ways and Means
Dan Watkins announced that the Boosters received $125.78 from
Ukrops' (Benevo-Link Program). The next Chick-fil-A night is
May 12th. Bruster Ice Cream coupon books are still available.
Summer car washes have been scheduled for 7/8, 7/22, and 8/5
at Wal-Mart from 10 - 2.
Auman Report
Mr. Auman noted that the Band Festival went well with the Concert
Band earning an overall rating of 2 and the Wind Ensemble a
1. The band was named a Virginia Honor Band. Godwin has earned
the Blue Ribbon School Award from the Virginia Music Educators
Association for achieving "Superior" (the highest)
ratings at district festival by the top band (wind ensemble),
chorus, and orchestra.
The band, orchestra, and chorus will perform Alexander Nevsky
by Serge Prokoflev on May 25th. There will be two performances
that evening (times to be announced) and there will be a charge
to help cover the cost of renting the music.

General Membership meeting 4/3/06
Call To Order
President Susan Taylor called the meeting of the general membership
to order at 7:40 pm.

She noted that the food lines will start promptly at 6:00 pm
this year and there will be additional seating along the perimeter
of the cafeteria. It was decided by the board to charge $14
per ticket. The cost for the seniors will be covered by the
Boosters.
Scholarships
The Boosters are hoping to offer one or two scholarships to
graduating seniors this year. The amounts will be determined
by the Board after we receive Wal-Mart's donation. The deadline
for senior's to apply is April 28th and the recipient(s) will
be announced at the Band Banquet.
Tribute Book
Sherry Galloway noted that there is still space available for
senior tributes.
Ways and Means
Dan Watkins announced that the Boosters received $125.78 from

night was successful; $38 was made on the Chick-fil-A wheel
and we should be receiving a check for 15% of receipts submitted
on behalf of the band. The next Chick-fil-A night is May 12.

Chaperones
Debra Bradshaw thanked all the chaperones that helped with the
Spring Trip.

at the next pep rally and at our Spring Concert.
Fiddler OnThe Roof will be held the first week of May, Wednesday
through Saturday at 7:30 pm.
The band, orchestra and choruses will be performing Alexander
Nevsky by Serge Prokoflev twice on May 25th (times to be announced).
The band's spring concert will be held on May 16th.
Spring Trip
Feedback from the Spring Trip was discussed. The general consensus
was that the transportation, food, and accommodations were great.
The kids were exhausted by the last night and it was suggested
to let them have their late night earlier in the trip. Mr. Auman
talked about the music workshops and a DVD of the concert band's
workshop was shown.
