Treasurer's Report- Frances Campbell
Roby applauded Band Boosters for a great job. Last year's fund
raisers were very successful. We have been able to purchase
>$13,000 worth of new instruments.
Francis distributed a financial statement and summary. Details
are available from Francis upon request.
Discussion was held regarding payment for the extra charges
for the Spring Trip. The following were factors contributing
to these extra charges; 1) difficulty determining cost of accommodations
2) difficulty determining the number of participants. Francis
discussed this problem with chorus boosters so that it can be
avoided or minimized in the future. 3) the contract with the
organizing company, Music Celebrations, was based on a fixed
number of participants and we did not meet that number, therefore
the cost was higher. 4) delays in approval for the trip by the
County.
Francis discussion with Choral boosters resulted in lowering
the original estimated band share from 2.309 to 1,520.40. A
motion was made and the Board voted to pay Choral Boosters 1,520.40
to reconcile payment for Spring Trip.
Executive Board Planning Meeting will be held in early
July, date TBA.

Mr. Auman's Report
Godwin's band received Superior ratings for concert band and
wind ensemble.
Next year's show is entitled "Electronica". It is
different, more involved, more work. It is also fun. The show
is based on the advent of the synthesizer and was written especially
for a field show. The students are already working on the music.
The school board approved giving 0.5 credit at the honors level
for those participating in Marching Band.
Marching Band is no longer required. This allows students who
have conflicts with other activities to remain in band.
Mr. Auman commented that music and marching make students smarter.
Students who march score higher on SAT's by 60 points. Colleges
look at music majors. 77% of those admitted to medical school
are music majors vs. 44% from the biochemistry major. Student
grades are better during marching band season. They have goals,
they work hard, they are scheduled, and they are using both
sides of their brain and their entire body.
8th grade drum try outs will be held Friday 6/8 at 4:00.
Spring Trip next year is to be decided. The timing of it is
tricky due to Easter, SOL's and coordination with Chorus. Destination
and dates TBA.
Band Camp instructors this year include Devin, Ryan Scott's
dad, Chris Auman and Michael Auman.
Roby read a thank you note from graduating Senior, Kevin Loving,
thanking band Boosters for the $1,000 Tim Sullivan scholarship
award.
It was announced that the drum line played for a block party
given for a soldier returning from Iraq. During the party, one
of the soldier's family members, a child with Down's syndrome,
was allowed to pay the drums. It was a moving time for all involved
and displays the big-heartedness and community outreach of drum
line and the entire the Godwin band program.
The meeting was adjourned at 8:30PM
Respectfully submitted,
Sallie Bartholomew
